The NZQA Unit standard 20666 'Demonstrate basic knowledge of contamination hazards and control methods used in a food business' provides the basic knowledge and food safety training for anyone working with food in a commercial kitchen.

Online Interactive: Join a live meeting that is not pre-recorded. This gives you the opportunity to ask specific questions.

Theory: 9am - 12:30pm (includes morning tea break)

Workbook and course material: We will provide a printed copy on your arrival.

Assessment: 1:30pm - 3pm (you can leave early once you have finished the assessment)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

English Requirements: NCEA Level 2, IELTS 5.5 or Upper-intermediate (B2) level or higher.

Provide an Approved Identification Document.

ONLINE INTERACTIVE REQUIREMENTS

Access to a computer for the online assessment (tablet or phone is not recommended).

Google account with known password to complete online assessment.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify the causes of cross-contamination.
  • Recognise those high-risk foods that are often responsible for food-borne illnesses.
  • Learn about the diseases and illnesses that can result from food poisoning.
  • Practice basic food safety skills including personal hygiene in your workplace.
  • Food Protection and how to minimise food wastage.
  • Manage and identify hazards and poor food safety.
  • Understand correct cleaning procedures to minimise risks to the health of staff and customers.
  • Find out more about why food hygiene is so important to our communities.
  • Food Act 2014
  • Introduction to Food Control Plans

This coures is designed for food handlers, food managers and general staff in the following businesses and industries:

  • Restaurants
  • Cafes
  • Early Childhood Centers
  • Aged Care or Rest Home
  • Other Food Handling busineess.

Te Hiku Business Boosters will cover paying $105,  requiring businesses to pay only $50 per person. Please note that there is a limit of four registrations per business.
